Marmalade and almond couscous

How long it keeps

About 6 months, set by Marmalade.

Indicative, for planning a build before you buy. The answer for a pack you already own is the best before date printed on it, and that only holds if it has been stored as the label says.

Ingredients

Couscous as a breakfast rather than a side. It needs no cooking at all, only boiling water and five minutes, which makes it the fastest hot breakfast on this site.

  1. Almonds toasted dry for ninety seconds first, while the pan is empty and clean. Out onto a plate.
  2. Couscous, milk powder, cinnamon and salt into a bowl, whisked together dry so the milk powder does not clump.
  3. Boiling water to about 1.2 times the volume of the couscous. Plate on top.
  4. Five minutes. Then forked through properly to separate the grains.
  5. Marmalade stirred in while hot so it loosens and spreads.

Marmalade rather than jam, deliberately. The bitterness of the peel is the only thing stopping this being a bowl of sweet starch, and it is what makes it work.
